Brake Replacement

Your car’s braking system is the first line of defense in an impending accident. Driving a car with bad brakes puts the driver and other road users at risk of an accident. On the other hand, ensuring your vehicles have well-functioning brakes can save your life and other road users. Therefore, ensure your brakes are in good condition before driving.

A good braking system is important to a safe journey. At M & R Automotive Repair, we offer brake replacement services needed for the safe operation of the vehicle. We have expert technicians trained to fix your vehicle brakes. So you can be assured that your car is in safe hands.

SMOG Check

We are a STAR certified SMOG check station. If you need a smog check to register your vehicle in California, we can help. Give us a call if you have any questions about getting your vehicle smogged, or click the button below to schedule an appointment to bring your vehicle in.

The Hybrid Battery Air Filter Nobody Talks About

The UX 250h and UX 300h carry a 1.4 kWh nickel-metal hydride traction battery mounted below the rear seat, and Lexus includes a dedicated air filter (part G92DH-12050) that most owners never hear about. Dust, pet hair, and time clog the filter and drive up battery temperatures. We clean or replace the filter at service intervals, which keeps the battery cooling system working the way Lexus designed it.

The 12V Auxiliary Battery That Dies Early

Every UX carries a small 12V auxiliary battery that supports electronics and wake-up functions, and short-trip driving patterns starve it of a full charge cycle. Owners then find themselves with a dead UX after a long weekend away. We perform a state-of-health test on the 12V battery at every service and catch the weak ones before they strand the owner.

Direct Shift-CVT Fluid Service on the UX 200

The UX 200 uses Lexus’s Direct Shift-CVT, which adds a physical launch gear to a conventional CVT for smoother acceleration from a stop. The CVT fluid in this transmission is a service item even when the maintenance schedule downplays it. We perform a drain-and-fill using the correct Toyota CVT fluid and verify the fill level per the factory procedure.

eCVT Transaxle Fluid on the UX 250h and UX 300h

The hybrid UX uses an eCVT transaxle that houses MG1, MG2, and the power split device in a single unit. Toyota specifies transaxle fluid service at intervals most owners never see on a dealer work order. We use the correct Toyota hybrid transaxle fluid and document the service on the maintenance record for the owner.

Cabin Air Filter Neglect

Cabin air filters on Bay Area cars fill with pollen, dust, and fine particulate faster than owners expect, and a clogged filter cuts HVAC airflow and strains the blower motor over time. We replace the UX cabin air filter at the recommended interval and inspect the housing for debris buildup. The fix takes minutes and keeps the interior air quality where a luxury crossover should have it.

Brake Fluid Moisture Testing

Brake fluid is hygroscopic, which means it absorbs water from the air through seals and hoses, and wet brake fluid boils under hard braking and damages ABS modules from the inside. On a hybrid UX with regenerative braking, the hydraulic system still needs fresh fluid even though the friction brakes see less work. We test moisture content at every major service and flush when readings exceed spec.

Brake Pad and Rotor Inspection on Hybrid UX Models

Regenerative braking on the UX 250h and UX 300h means the friction brakes do less work than on a gas-only car, and that reduced workload lets pads and rotors corrode from under-use. Rear brakes in particular rust-bond and lose even contact across the pad surface. We inspect pads and rotors at every service and recommend clean-up or replacement based on condition, not mileage alone.

Let’s Keep Your UX Running the Way It Should

The UX rewards the owner who pays attention to small service items, and we track that list for every UX we see at our shop. If you drive a UX around Menlo Park, Atherton, or Palo Alto and want a thorough service from a shop that knows this crossover well, call M & R Auto Repair Shop in Menlo Park at (650) 325-3900. We’ll schedule a visit that covers every one of the seven items above.
